Enjoy this relaxing and spectacularly beautiful calm water float that begins just south of Asheville and lasts approximately 2.5 – 3.5 hours, while floating down the French Broad River through the heart of the Biltmore Estate. Along the way, you will enjoy lots of views of the surrounding southern Appalachian Mountains and will have a chance to see some of the local wildlife.

What you need to know
  • Forest Bathing is simply a guided walk in nature. Your guide will share mindfulness practices and invitations designed to connect you more deeply to your inner landscapes, as well as the world around you.
  • Public walks are available on Saturday afternoons in the winter (Nov – Feb) and on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays the rest of the year (March-October).
  • The location of your walk will be disclosed after booking and depends on many factors including weather conditions, road closures, day of the week, etc.
  • Activity Requirements
  • Bring sun protection, bug repellent, water, an open heart and mind and anything else you need to be comfortable on this short, gentle stroll. We recommend close-toed shoes and long pants. Be sure to wear weather-appropriate clothing and remember that layers are your key to comfort. Rain protection is essential. Please remember that temperatures in higher elevations can be significantly lower than in town and rain is always a possibility.
  • If you are joining a public Forest Bathing session, you are responsible for getting yourself to/from the trailhead. You can generally plan on the trail head being about an hour from Asheville and will receive detailed driving instructions in your confirmation email. It is important to note that, while an Uber/Lyft may bring you to the trail, they will NOT pick you up from the trail head.

What you need to know
  • Prepare to get wet, please bring a towel and an extra set of clothes.
  • We recommend booking at least 24 hours in advance.
  • Previous canyoneering or rappelling experience recommended but not required.
  • Canyon time is between 3-4 hours, good physical shape is required.
  • Gratuity for your guide is appreciated.
  • We recommend that you wear loose, comfortable clothing that is not bulky (because you will be wearing a harness). Try to avoid wearing cotton or denim as these fabrics do not breathe or dry well; choose wool or synthetic materials (such as polyester, dry-fit or wicking materials) instead.
  • Climbing shoes will be provided upon arrival.
  • If you need prescription glasses or contact lenses, please wear them. Sunglasses are also a nice item on a sunny day. We do suggest that you have a strap for your glasses though, as they can fall off and get lost easily without a strap.
  • We do not recommend that you bring hiking poles, since they are very difficult to manage while on rappel.
  • We ask that you do not bring valuables or anything else on the trip that you would mind having lost, wet, or broken. You will be able to leave things like a change of clothes and other items in the van at the trailhead near the canyon, so please bring those along with you. Your cell phone is unlikely to work though, so we suggest that you don’t risk bringing it on the actual trip. If you would like to take pictures of your trip, we suggest instead that you bring small a waterproof/shockproof camera or a disposable camera.
