Cowboy Evenings at Bobcat Pass Wilderness Adventures are a fun country western night for everyone! The evening begins with activities around the barnyard, and then you will enjoy an authentic Chuck Wagon dinner that is served at 6 PM. Enjoy delicious food that is prepared from scratch and music from Syd Masters, a talented country artist from New Mexico!

  • Cowboy Evenings are offered on most Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday nights throughout the summer.
  • The evening begins around 5:00 with activities to keep the crowd entertained outside, as well as inside the barn, until the meal is served at 6 pm.
  • We are excited to have award-winning singer and songwriter Syd Masters back with us for his 12th season at Cowboy Evening.
  • The meal is prepared from scratch on the dinner day, using the best ingredients. You’ll enjoy a choice of a 12-16 oz. Mouth-watering marinated ribeye steak, which is hand-cut for each dinner and prepared to the temperature of your choice, or a delicious grilled chicken breast marinated in our Lewis Family Marinade. Our famous ranch biscuits are cooked fresh in Dutch ovens right before your eyes! It doesn’t stop there! Your meal is accompanied by a heaping helping of cowboy beans, corn on the cob, baked potato with the fixins, Cowboy Coffee, tea, and lemonade. Experience an outdoor adventure like no other in the mountains of Northern New Mexico with Bobcat Pass Wilderness Adventures. You will enjoy a guided tour that begins directly from the Bobcat Pass office and goes through Carson National Forest. The experienced guides will take you through the scenic forest and will teach you about the area’s history.

Bobcat Pass Wilderness Adventures: Snowmobile Tour

Adventure seekers and sightseers alike will enjoy Bobcat Pass Wilderness Adventures’ guided snowmobile tours on a private ranch. Your experienced guide will make a couple of stops for spectacular views of Wheeler Peak and the surrounding Sangre de Cristo Range. From there, you will travel to the back side of the ranch where you can snowmobile at your leisure, sled, and warm up by a campfire.

What you need to know
  • Guests must be 18 years of age or older to operate a snowmobile. We allow guests between the ages of 15-18 to operate a snowmobile after completing an online snowmobile safety course and receiving a certification.

Far Flung Adventures: Lower Gorge Full Day

A full day at the Lower Gorge section of the Rio Grande is the most popular intermediate and family-friendly day trip in northern New Mexico. Enjoy a calm morning floating the Orilla Verde scenic section, and then after a riverside lunch, you will head downstream into the Racecourse section. This is an exciting, class III rapids that is great for first-time rafters of 6 years of age and older.

  • Guest check-in is at the Far Flung Riverside location at 8:15 am. From there, we will shuttle upstream to our launch point.

  • Our morning is spent floating down the Rio Grande through the towering volcanic canyon, keeping an eye out for wildlife and enjoying a few class I-II rapids. At noon we’ll provide a delicious riverside lunch on the Far Flung beach at our Riverside property. In the afternoon the river will plunge into the Racecourse, our most popular whitewater half-day section. Enjoy infamous class III rapids such as Albert’s Falls, Big Rock and Sousehole! We will plan to have you back to your vehicles around 3pm.
  • What to Wear:
    • Depending on your trip type (if it includes hiking/horseback riding/Mountain Biking), you may want to pack separate river clothes.
    • River Shoes – Wear sturdy shoes that you don’t mind getting wet! Only wear sandals with straps (loose sandals will fall off if you happen to go in the water.) Flip flops will not work. Tennis shoes you don’t mind getting wet work great too.
    • River Clothes – Sun-protection and quick-dry clothes are key. Avoid cotton! Cotton won’t dry as quickly and will feel cold when wet. Check the conditions and layer appropriately. For sunny days, a sun shirt and hat (preferable with a strap) will always serve you well.
    • Dry Clothes – Whether you are hiking as part of your trip or simply want to be warm and dry after the river, you may bring a towel and dry clothes. You’ll be able to store your clothes in your vehicle, shuttle, or our office.
    • For early season or colder weather, add quick-drying layers and even wool or synthetic if you have it.
  • What to Bring:
    • Water, sunscreen, hat and a great attitude!
    • Your guides will have small dry bags available for small personal items, but we recommend leaving all expensive jewelry and electronics at home. Your car keys and other small items can be left in our office or your shuttle vehicle. We highly recommend not taking your keys on the river!

    • After arriving, your guide will go over some general information and the office staff will get you checked in. You will leave your car (and any extra personal items) at the meeting spot before shuttling over to the put-in location. Depending on your trip, rafting will end at the meeting spot or you will be shuttled back to the meeting spot.
    • Your guides will walk you through some safety aspects, get you fitted with all necessary safety gear and thermal garments depending on the day’s conditions, and will facilitate a fun, educational and safe day for you and your group. Enjoy a beautiful, calm scenic float in the craft of your choice. Far Flung Adventures will meet at the Riverside property where you will park your vehicle and be shuttled up the river to float back down to the private beach and your car. These rentals are available to novices, beginners, and people of most ages and abilities. All rentals include safety equipment, parking, and shuttle service.

  • 2 hour section is roughly 3 miles and the 4 hour section is roughly 6 miles.
  • Starting places may vary depending on water levels.
  • You will park your vehicle and we will shuttle you up the river and you will float back to our private beach and your car.
  • All rentals include safety equipment, parking and shuttle service.
  • We welcome first-time rafters 6 years of age and older. You should be in normal good health.
  • Our rentals begin at 8:00am and meeting times are available every 30 minutes throughout the day.

  • Most groups go in paddle boats, but oar-powered rafts may be requested.

  • Several Class II rapids occur throughout the outing, in between calm stretches perfect for floating and swimming. We will float through the village of Pilar, New Mexico where we will observe a quiet zone to minimize the impact of our passage through this historic, small New Mexico community.
  • What to Wear:

This intermediate tour descends from the country between Taos and Angel Fire down to the high desert above the Rio Grande Gorge. This one-day guided trip begins just outside of Angel Fire and features some of the best mountain biking in the country.

Far Flung Adventures: Taos Box Full Day

The Taos Box is one of the most infamous sections of whitewater in the Southwest and a popular full-day adventure rafting trip in New Mexico. A perfect trip for any suitable, able-bodied, and adventurous rafters (12 years of age and older) looking to unplug for a day, get outside and get some adrenaline pumping! This will be a phenomenal day of wilderness fun and challenging whitewater.

What you need to know

  • Difficulty: Moderate to Adventurous
  • The day will begin by meeting at the Far-Flung Adventures Boathouse at 8:00 am.
  • We welcome beginning rafters 12 years of age and older. You should be active and in normal good health and prepared for the exertion of paddling and possible swimming. Guides will do the navigating in paddle boats or oar-powered rafts.
  • Be prepared to get wet!
  • We will plan to have guests back to our office and their vehicles around 3pm. Halfway through the trip we will provide a delicious riverside lunch, most often including an array of home-roasted sandwich meats and homemade dips and salsas. Our famous deli lunch is a staple of the Far-Flung experience, as 40 years in business has not only taught us the principles of reading white-water…but also of good food and healthy eating!
  • While crashing through the final class IV of the day, “Sunset Rapid”, a photographer will capture some snapshots of your run.
  • What to Wear:
